An overview of the visitor satisfaction of the Padma Garden,
Rajshahi, Bangladesh
A questionnaire sample survey was conducted during May 2016 in Padma garden, and a total of 30 visitors were interviewed. Findings from the surveys offer a new level of information related to the park's existing condition, demographic, socio-economic and accessibility condition of the visitors, and the public recommendation analysis. The methodologies used in these surveys provide essential information about the existing condition of the park. Based on survey results, it is estimated that nearly 40% of the respondents were the age between 20-25 years, and nearly 60% of them were students. Nearly 60 % of the respondents come to the study area for refreshment, and 73% of respondents indicated that 4.00-6.00 pm was the preferable time of visiting. Respondents were asked to rating some facilities while visiting the study area. About decoration, 46.7% of respondents said that they are highly satisfied. About sitting place, 33.3% of respondents indicated they are highly satisfied.
On the other hand, about dustbin facilities, 40.0% of respondents indicated that their satisfaction level is low. When they were asked to evaluate the study area's security condition, 80.0% identified no existence of a security guard.33.3% of respondents identified that there is “eve-teasing” and 56.7% said their satisfaction level action against “eve-teasing” is very high. The most common complaints registered by visitors are crowd and beggars.96.7% of respondents identified it as “chaos,” and 83.3% of respondents identified the existence of “beggars.”
From the survey, the result can be understood that visitors are not enough satisfied with the study area management's facilities and security system. The respondents recommended the provision of the public toilet, dustbin facilities, and more sitting benches. They also recommended more security guards to ensure security. The recommendations indicated by respondents concern how systems and approaches can be improved to develop the existing situation of the study area. Though the visitors face some problems, they visit the study area for refreshment, and if proper facilities and security can be provided, their visit will be more enjoyable.
