Seminar on Digital Bangladesh & Smart City

International Fire Safety & Security Expo-2020, Dhaka, Bangladesh.

February 13, 2020

Bangladesh's GDP grew 7.2% at FY 2018 – 19 and became 2nd fastest-growing economy. The Social & Economic development of Bangladesh sees huge progress in recent years. The contribution of Cities to GDP in Bangladesh is 60% and Dhaka city is contributing 30% alone. There is no alternate to keep the cities active and productive for sake of the economy. Some of those cities are struggling to survive but on the other hand, some of the cities transformed into SMART CITIES. These Smart Cities need proper urban planning, sustainable development, environment, energy grid, economic development, technologies, social Aetc.

These cities are often linking together technological informational transformations with economic, political, and socio-cultural change and integration and adaption. Smart City is a broad concept including many aspects of urban life, such as urban planning, sustainable development, environment, energy grid, economic development, technologies, social participation, and so on; therefore, also the word smart assumes a large range of meanings, linked with its different field of application.

How to Accelerate the Implementation of Sustainable Urban Development to Achieve the Sustainable Development Goals in the Asia-Pacific Region

The Seventh Asia-Pacific Urban Forum (APUF-7), Penang, Malaysia,

October 15-17, 2019

APUF-7 had provided the unique platform to discuss and analyze the status, challenges, and opportunities of the implementation of the New Urban Agenda, the Paris Agreement, the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction, and the 2030 Agenda in the region. APUF-7 had also been the venue to launch The Future of Asia-Pacific Cities 2019 report being developed by ESCAP and UN-Habitat in partnership with the European Union, Asian Development Bank, The Rockefeller Foundation, UNDP, Singapore’s Centre for Liveable Cities, and many others.

Energy Management and Audit Training - ISO 50001

Remote Sensing to Support Research in Regional Science

16th Pacific Regional Science Conference Organization Summer Institute (PRSCO 2019), Pathumwan Princess Hotel, Bangkok, Thailand,

July 27, 2019

Satellite and airborne remote sensing significantly reduce the needs (thus the costs) of field measurements, while providing spatially explicit observations of our changing landscapes across spatial and temporal scales. In the community of regional science, researchers have begun to apply remotely sensed data to understand the complex processes behind various, observable phenomena, such as urbanization, deforestation, and changes in biodiversity and agricultural productivity. The main objective of this half-day workshop is to offer basic instruction in the use and interpretation of remote sensing systems, data, and products, which aims to benefit regional scientists with little or no background in remote sensing. The workshop includes three major parts: (i) remote sensing concepts, platforms, and sensors, (ii) free and open-access remote sensing data and products, and (iii) hands-on experience of applying free Google Earth Engine to complete powerfully, yet easy remote sensing image processing for various information needs.

Spatial Agent-Based Modeling

16th Pacific Regional Science Conference Organization Summer Institute (PRSCO 2019), Pathumwan Princess Hotel, Bangkok, Thailand,

July 27, 2019

The workshop provided an overview of current topics and state-of-the-art in agent-based modeling and the primary focus was the mechanics of model development for which participants will receive the hands-on tutorial geared to beginners. NetLogo s the ain programming platform. Bottom-up models of spatial patterns emerging from the decentralized actions of heterogeneous agents had been explored. Examples covered included models of Residential Segregation and Iterated Prisoner's Dilemma. The workshop had proceeded in stages where (i) the implementation of a simple ABM is demonstrated, (ii) a GIS module is integrated, and (iii) participants are walked through in-class exercises. Emerging Topics at the intersection of regional science and computational modeling had been discussed.

Vision Contest, Reconnecting Urban Sphere with Nature

Bangladesh Youth Environmental Initiative (BYEI)

June 7, 2017

People of the world are moving towards the urban growth center every day. Fifty years back, only one-third of the world’s population lived in the cities, and now more than half does (World Bank, 2015). This rapid growth and migration have taken over a large natural habitat and nonetheless, the people moved away from nature as they entered urban life. The World Environment Day 2017 called for ‘Connecting People with Nature’. Inspired by this, Bangladesh Youth Environmental Initiative (BYEI) and partners had launched the Vision Contest: Reconnecting Urban Sphere with Nature.

National Conference on Disaster Forecasting and Management Seminar

Space and Environmental Research Centre (SERC)

October 10, 2015

Disaster management efforts aim to reduce or avoid the potential losses from hazards, assure prompt and appropriate assistance to the victims of a disaster, and achieve rapid and effective recovery. It is crucial that hospitals remain safe and functional during and after disasters. Whereas disaster forecasting ensures that development and disaster preparedness do not disturb each other but complement each other. It also ensures that, should disaster strike, the time taken to return to normalcy is minimized and that loss of life and property is minimized.
